Data and Evaluation

Data is critical to understanding the prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV) and disparities in rates of violence among different groups. Data also helps us demonstrate the impact of our prevention efforts, influence decisionmakers to make prevention a priority, and monitor progress toward our goals.

For many years, the RICADV has been using data to shape our primary prevention strategies and communicate about them. We advocate on a state level to make sure data systems and stakeholders are collecting and sharing information related to the problem and prevention of IPV, and to make data more accessible, equitable and inclusive.

The RICADV uses a data-to-action approach in our prevention strategies, meaning we constantly assess them using agile evaluation plans and reflective practice. We then immediately apply what we learn to direct and shape how we move forward, in collaboration with the people and groups participating in the strategies themselves and in our prevention learning communities.

We regularly share data, findings and lessons learned with local, state and national partners, including those in the domestic violence movement and field of public health. We work with our partners to inform our data and evaluation practice, helping us develop plans, tools and processes for measuring and communicating change. Together, we collaborate to make meaning out of the data and use our findings to prioritize primary prevention in the state of Rhode Island and on a national level.
