Krista Cunningham, Deputy Director

Krista Cunningham is the Deputy Director at the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV). In her current role, Krista supports the organization’s operations, including human resources and office administration, grants management and development, and supervising and supporting the staff. Krista joined the RICADV in 2013 as part of the communications team. In this capacity, she coordinated statewide public awareness campaigns, managed websites, wrote and designed annual reports and print publications, and built relationships with RICADV member agencies and partners. As a communications team member and later as the public education and outreach manager, Krista worked closely with the prevention team, supporting the RICADV’s nationally recognized strategy Ten Men, and editing, designing, and disseminating findings from the RICADV’s Policy Implementation Evaluation Report on the Lindsay Ann Burke Act, RI’s comprehensive teen dating violence education law. In 2019, Krista stepped into the role of director of prevention, where she managed the RICADV’s cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In this role, she also provided training and technical assistance on primary prevention, coordinated and supported community grant recipients of the RI Domestic Violence Prevention Fund, convened the RI State Leadership Team for Intimate Partner Violence Prevention, and built strong cross-sector partnerships and meaningful relationships with colleagues and community members working to end domestic and sexual violence. Among her proudest accomplishments, Krista led several major communications initiatives for prevention, including the creation of the Voices of Change video series in collaboration with four local BIPOC-led community organizations, and the 2023 publication Preventing Intimate Partner Violence in Rhode Island. Born and raised in the Ocean State, Krista graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Communications. She loves to cook, read, learn new things, and spend quality time with her husband Ricky and their adorable dogs Ava and Joy.
