"Our vision is to be a catalyst for creating empowered and transformed individuals, partnerships, communities and societies committed to respectful collaborative processes that promote a lasting legacy of equality, peace and social justice." - This shared vision statement was created by the National DELTA Collaborative.
What is the DELTA Project? The Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement Leadership through Alliances (DELTA) Project is funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is intended to prevent first time perpetration and first time victimization of IPV. The DELTA Project is a 14 state domestic violence coalition collaboration with the CDC that aims to change social norms and conditions that allow IPV to exist. In Rhode Island, the DELTA Project includes four Community Partnership Teams and a Statewide Steering Committee. The Community Partnership Teams (CPTs) have been working to implement evidence supported primary prevention strategies in the communities of Cranston, Newport, Providence, and Woodlawn. Each CPT is made up of residents and community leaders in those cities that want to make their communities violence free. Some of the prevention strategies that have been implemented include: Safe Dates, Students Against Domestic Abuse, Young Men's Work, and Love Peace respectively. To learn more about these activities, contact the local CPT organizer.
The SSC is developing a statewide strategic primary prevention plan and has identified three priority areas that they will develop strategies for men, youth 12-18, and prevention system capacity. The plan will be published in May 2009.
