We're excited to invite you to the return of the award-winning play about domestic violence, hope and survival, Behind Closed Doors. Performed and written by survivors of domestic violence from SOAR (Sisters Overcoming Abusive Relationships), a task force of the RICADV, the play weaves together the struggles and victories they endured in a narrative that takes us on their collective journeys
from victims to survivors.

The Sisters Overcoming Abusive Relationships (SOAR) Play
Behind Closed Doors Will Debut at Trinity Repertory Company Dowling Theater on Monday, December 10, 2012

The groundbreaking play about domestic violence, hope and survival was rescheduled because of Hurricane Sandy

[Providence, R.I.] Sisters Overcoming Abusive Relationships (SOAR) today announced a new date for the play, Behind Closed Doors, which was postponed Monday because of Hurricane Sandy.  The opening night performance will take place on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at the Trinity Repertory Company Dowling Theater in Providence.

All tickets to the sold-out October 29 performance will be honored.

More information about the play can be obtained by visiting soarinri.org within the coming weeks.

"Behind Closed Doors" is an original play written and performed by 15 survivors of domestic violence from SOAR, a task force of RICADV. This performance is a true account of their experiences with domestic violence, hope and survival, and seeks to draw you into their lives to dispel the stigmas of this often misunderstood abuse. The script was crafted by Trinity Repertory Company teaching artists Michael Williams and Francesca Montanile, who mentored the SOAR members in cultivating their performances. The play was developed over ten 90-minute sessions in which the survivors journaled, wrote poetry and told stories that were weaved into a play composed completely of their own words. The women speak both their own words and the words of their fellow survivors. All proceeds from "Behind Closed Doors" benefit SOAR/RICADV in raising awareness and ending domestic violence.

SOAR is a task force of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence comprised of domestic violence survivors.  SOAR's mission is to promote, advocate and work towards the elimination of domestic violence and to embody and give visibility to the voices of abused women.
